3-cent Centenary of Settlement of Utah single

The 100th anniversary of the settlement of Utah was commemorated by a 3-cent purple stamp issued on July 24, 1947. Following acquisition of the Utah Territory by the United States in the Mexican-American War, a group of Mormons led by Brigham Young initiated settlement. The stamp shows settlers with a covered wagon entering the valley of Great Salt Lake. Young's famous remark, "This is the Place," is inscribed on the stamp.
