The Myth of Extinction

In the sciences, the expectation of extinction has plagued Native peoples. The expectation today is one of survival – through resilience, cultural strength and well-informed adaptation. The National Museum of the American Indian is a salient example—on the National Mall—that the Native peoples and cultures of the United States and of the Americas are not relics of the past, but are alive and vibrant today.
