Research Funding

The Smithsonian National Postal Museum is pleased to announce funding for the research of philatelic or postal topics leading to publication. The funds are available to PhDs, doctoral students, and other specialists. They enable their recipients to spend an uninterrupted block of time doing research on their projects in NPM and other appropriate Washington DC collections and discussing their work with specialists. Research can include any topic supported by the NPM collections.

The Museum also co-sponsors research with philatelic and postal history groups. We are currently working with the United States Stamp Society. Please take a look at its website for more information.

Interested persons are invited to apply for these funds. The funds, for a sum up to $2,500, shall be a contribution toward expenses for a visit(s) to Washington DC. Please contact NPMResearchChair@si.edu for the application and to learn more. Please send any questions to NPMResearchChair@si.edu.

NPM also hosts fellows supported by the Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program (SIFP).
