Object Details
- Description
- On July 4, 1977, a series of stamps was issued to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. The set was comprised of 200-lire and 400-lire values. The value of each is indicated in the top right hand corner. "POSTE VATICANE" appears along the left side, and "ASSUNZIONE" appears along the right side.
- The 200-lire stamp reproduces the Sleep of the Virgin and the Assumption into Heaven, copied from a miniature in the Latin MS. N. 2919 of the Ottoboni (Pope Alexander VIII) collection.
- The stamps are vertical in format, measure 30 x 40 mm, and have perforations of 13 1/4 x 14. They were issued in sheets of forty, and printed by rotogravure on white glossy paper by the Polygraphic Institute of the Italian State. The complete series amounts to 1,250,000 sets.
