Here at the National Postal Museum, we are getting really excited about a very unique public program. On Saturday, June 25, 2016, you’re invited to the National Postal Museum’s Family Day with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants in celebration of the 2013 SpongeBob MailPants program and the induction of a special-edition SpongeBob mailbox into the museum’s collection.

The event is from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Admission is free!

The museum will be decked out like Bikini Bottom—SpongeBob’s underwater home—and filled with fun activities for the whole family. Join us for a chance to meet SpongeBob SquarePants, play nautical-themed games, build a sand castle with kinetic sand, and more! Visitors can document their experienceby sending a limited-edition SpongeBob postcard at the postcard writing station or posing for pictures in a Bikini Bottom photo booth. The festival will include performances by Casey Carle, the renowned comic bubble artist! Friends of the National Zoo will also be there to present facts about SpongeBob’s real life marine counterparts. Be there or be square!

In 2013, Nickelodeon partnered with the United States Postal Service for the SpongeBob MailPants program, which used the beloved and iconic SpongeBob SquarePants to teach kids the fun of writing, sending, and receiving mail. Children and their parents were encouraged to visit their local Post Office for a pre-paid SpongeBob postcard, which they could write on and send to the person of their choosing. Also as part of the partnership, USPS debuted 30 SpongeBob SquarePants mailboxes which were stationed in 13 cities throughout the United States. The National Postal Museum is pleased to announce that one of these special SpongeBob mailboxes will be inducted into the museum’s Education Collection on Friday, June 24th.

Join us on Saturday, June 25 for the National Postal Museum’s Family Day with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants!!
