Assignment: | Belmont Park, New York |
An ex-aerial squadron flight commander during World War I, Thomas B. McCoun worked for the General Electric company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania prior to his stint as an airmail pilot. Although hired as a pilot, McCoun had hoped for something better. In his first application letter, he asked for a "position such as field or station manager of an executive nature, so that continuous or regular flying is not a pre-requisite."
Nevertheless, McCoun was hired as a pilot on June 2, 1919. He never rose over that rank, and left the service after surviving a nasty accident and left the service after a nasty accident soon after being hired.
