Little is known of Ralph J. Johnson's career as an airmail pilot other than his service dates and location assignments.
Johnson filed this forced landing report regarding his March 19, 1927 landing when ice formed on his airplane. Unfortunately, as is shown in his report, Johnson struck and injured a spectator while landing. The records do not indicate the name of the spectator, or the extent of the injuries. Aviation was still novel enough in the late 1920s that people would run out to see airplanes landing and taking off. Sometimes spectators were too zealous and in their excitement ran onto the landing strip where they endangered themselves and the pilots.
