LA pouch padlock

Metal padlock developed by Burton L. Andrus. The front body is marked “U.S. MAIL.” This lock type is known as “LA” which stands for “lock Andrus.” Andrus patented the lock in 1914. The lock is 42 percent brass and 58 percent steel. The LA lock was used through most of the 20th century to secure first class mail or parcel post in sacks.
