Unlike their American counterparts, the two British sea post clerks assigned to Titanic -- James Bertram Williamson and John Richard Jago Smith -- were bachelors. Though unmarried, they did have their share of family responsibilities. Both supported their aging parents: Williamson supported his 60-year-old mother, while Smith supported his elderly father. Both provided financial help to their siblings.
