The bodies of Oscar Scott Woody and John Starr March were among those found floating in the North Atlantic after Titanic sank. The ship’s life jackets were exceptionally buoyant, capable of keeping the upper portion of a sizable person well above water. But no life jacket, no matter how buoyant, could protect its wearer from the freezing temperature of the water. Many more of Titanic’s victims died from freezing rather than drowning.

This life jacket, a replica of those worn by Titanic’s passengers and crew, was used in the filming of James Cameron’s epic motion picture, TITANIC.
