2009 NPM Scholarship Winners
The National Postal Museum Scholarship Award Committee has reviewed all Scholarship applications, and selected Ms. Karen Jenks from the University of California, Irvine to receive the 1st NPM Scholarship. Her research project is “The Pacific Mail Steamship Company.”
In a subsequent briefing, museum director Allen Kane informed us there were additional funds available. Therefore, we are pleased to be able to award two additional scholarships: one to Ms. Rachel Moore, Clemson University, whose research project is “Getting papers from the Brazoo: Postmasters and postal workers in Charleston, New Orleans and Veracruz and the spread of news of the Mexican-American War.” The second additional scholarship is awarded to Mr. David Herendeen, FRPSL. His research project is entitled “A Colormetric Analysis Methodology for Philatelic Studies.”
The NPM / NAPEX scholarship was awarded to Ryan Ellis. His research project is ““Disinfection Mail: Disease, Panic and the Post Office in Late 19th Century America.”
