Tours

Docent-led tours are an excellent way to see the highlights of the National Postal Museum. Guided tours can be scheduled in advance for groups of 10 or more visitors. Self-guided tours, student tours, and guided tours for walk-in visitors are also available.

Sign language, oral interpreters, and assisted listening devices may be requested with advance notice for tours and events. One week advance notice is recommended, but not required. Call (202) 633-5535 (voice) or email: NPMTours@si.edu to make arrangements.

Tapes of the gallery guide are available at the information desk for the visually impaired.

Group Tours
Groups of 10 or more visitors may schedule a Museum Highlights Tour. Call 202-633-5535 (voice) at least three weeks in advance to make reservations for your guided group tour. Highlights Tours may be scheduled at 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m., any day of the week. These tours are approximately an hour long and are not recommended for school groups.

Drop-in Tours
Introductory tours of the Museum are offered to walk-in visitors at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (based on docent availability).  These tours meet at the Museum’s information desk and last approximately half an hour.  Call 202-633-5535 (voice) to confirm dates and times.

Self-guided Tours
Self-guided groups may visit the Museum any date or time. Brochures, including a map of the Museum galleries, and information about highlights of the Museum's exhibitions, are available in a kiosk at the bottom of the escalators at the entrance to the Museum. A copy of the self-guided tour brochure can also be downloaded here.
