Rotating U.S. and international stamp displays are housed in pullout frames (at left), featuring extraordinary materials sure to excite all museum visitors from those with a general interest in postage stamps to serious philatelists.
Currently, the first fifty pullout frames feature classic United States stamps from the exhibit Rarity Revealed: The Benjamin K. Miller collection. This two-part exhibit is the first public appearance in almost 30 years of the fabled Miller collection of The New York Public Library. Donated to the library in 1925, the Miller collection was the first complete collection of U.S. stamps ever assembled. It has been called the "crown jewels" of U.S. stamp collecting for its variety, depth, and rare holdings. The first part of the exhibit, on display from May 27, 2006 until October 1, 2007, showcased the stamps from before 1894. Part two, from November 5, 2007 –March 2, 2009 featured postage stamps with many rarities of the early twentieth century.
The next fourteen pullout frames show Benjamin K. Miller’s U.S. Pioneer Airmails, including many rare postcards and pieces of mail from 1910 – 1925. Following the airmails, the Ernest R. Ackerman collection of Proofs of United States Stamps, Gems from the National Philatelic Collection, and an invited exhibit of postal history complete the U.S. and International Stamps Gallery and further capture visitor’s awe and imagination.
