Moving the Mail : Airmail in America : US Aerial Mail Service 1918-1926 : The 1918 Flights : May Flights

back

President and Mrs. Wilson were present at the polo fields near the Potomac River the morning of the flights. As can be seen in this photograph, the President is wearing a bandage on his hand. Days before this event, he had inadvertently grabbed the barrel of a just-fired cannon gun, burning his hand.
