Raised in Michigan, Mark Hess became a professional bull rider
at the age of ten, but science and art captivated him. After studying
painting at the University of Colorado, he honed his skills as
an apprentice to his father, acclaimed designer Richard Hess.
His strong visual concepts and representational blend of surrealism,
irony, and humor quickly attracted industry attention. The recipient
of many professional awards and honors, he has created images
for such diverse clients as The New York Times, Rolling Stone,
Newsweek, Walt Disney Studios, IBM, American Express, and
the U.S. Postal Service, for which he has illustrated 46 stamps.
